Abstract

The discourse on contemporary Islamic educational philosophy faces ontological challenges arising from the tension between traditional orthodoxy and the secular modernity. This qualitative research, in the form of a literature review, aims to construct a new paradigm in Islamic educational philosophy by integrating religious moderation and culture as ontological, epistemological, and axiological foundations. This research synthesises the maqasid sharia, critical pedagogy, and Islamic cosmopolitanism. The findings reveal that the reconstruction of the core structure of Islamic educational philosophy demands an ontological shift from a closed, essentialist system towards a multidimensional, open system, in which moderation is positioned as the fundamental nature of religiosity and culture as its constitutive elements. This study confirms that Islamic education that is accommodating of moderate pluralism and cultural wisdom is a key prerequisite for shaping a humanistic and transformative Islamic civilisation.
